Coalition Agrees to Kick Out PKS
BOGOR:The Joint Party Coalition secretariat has agreed to dismiss the Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS) from the government coalition. The decision was made in a meeting at Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s home last night. “The PKS violated the coalition’s code of conduct,” said secretary Syarief Hassan.
Although this has not been officially announced, Syarief confirmed there would be a reduction in the number of coalition members. “We currently have five solid members,” he said, adding that the PKS had not been informed about this decision.
Syarief said the coalition’s contract clearly stated that the government’s strategic policies must be supported and implemented by the coalition members. “If a member disagrees, then they must resign and their involvement in the coalition ends,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the Democrat’s chairman Anas Urbaningrum, United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali, Golkar chairman Aburizal Bakrie, National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Muhaimin Iskandar and the National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Hatta Rajasa.
“The PKS was not invited,” said Syarief. He did not comment about the possibility of a reshuffle of three PKS ministers in the Indonesian Cabinet.
